Business Rules - Discount Definitions

To access and perform actions in the module:

  1. Contact your project manager to activate the module

  2. Assign the permit Perform actions in Discount Definitions module to the user(s).

The Discount Definitions module allows you to create discount rules for self-operation tours sold through the system in order to encourage customers to register to the tour.

There are three types of discounts that can be applied to the tour:

Each discount rule can be created for multiple types of discounts.

The module is flexible. You can create discounts for direct sales or specific travel agents. The discount can be applied to specific destinations, categories, code1, price levels, travel file attributes or tour departure dates. The discount can be an amount or percentage. If a percentage, you can define a maximum discount which can be applied. For example, you can create a discount rule for an entire series of tours by applying the rule to a specific code1 without defining departure dates. Or, you can create a discount rule for all tours in a specific destination, and not limit it to a code1 or departure dates.

Registration date discounts are calculated per passenger. With Early bird and Customer loyalty discounts, if the discount is a fixed amount, you can choose whether the discount is per passenger or per booking.

To work with this module, you will need to define Discount price components. When creating the rule, you will select tour price components the discount applies to. The amount of the Discount price component is deducted from the total amount of the price components you selected to be discounted.

In the Reservations System, available discounts can be viewed in: the B2E search results for self-operation tours based on fixed quantities (requires project manager to activate Detailed Information user interface), in the Price Options page and in the Booking Details page.

In order to apply the discount users need to select them on the Price Options page for the tour.

If a tour matches the criteria of a rule containing either an Early Bird or Registration Date discount, the discount will be selected by default for the tour. If the rule contains both of these discount types, the default discount the system applies is the Early Bird discount.

With Customer Loyalty discounts, the user needs to select the appropriate discount in the Price Options page, and later when entering the passenger details, the Passenger Attribute for the passengers will be initialized with the customer loyalty passenger attribute.

Discount rule parameters have a hierarchy, which is as follows (from strongest to weakest):

  1. Direct Sale/Travel Agent

  2. Start Date

  3. Code1

  4. Category

  5. Destination

  6. Price Level

  7. Travel file attribute

Stronger parameters override weaker parameters.
